As a business owner, your main aim in life might be to ensure that your business makes a hefty profit and that you can see some real results months after month. However as well as your business success, another important duty for a manager is to look after their employees. As a manager you will be tasked with taking on the responsibility of your employees and this means that you need to find a style of working which allows you and them to thrive.

There are lots of ways to be a great manager and a leader, but the thing we are going to look at specifically today is actually balancing your life with work and making sure that you are able to live a happier and less stressful life.

Have fixed hours

When trying to find balance in life it is important for us to think about ways that we can make life easier. As the owner of a business or a small venture you won’t have boss to give you working hours each day. Therefore for you to be able to work effectively you need to make sure that you come up with a working schedule to suit you. The aim will be that after a certain time in the afternoon you should close your laptop and leave your work until the morning. As much as you might be passionate about your business and you might want to make it work, it is not a good idea to spend all of your time working. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!

…but also be flexible

As much as you might say to yourself to switch off at 5pm and leave it until the morning, if you are in the middle of something there is no reason why you can’t finish it. However this can also work the other way and if one day you want to finish working earlier, get home and enjoy your free time. As well as this, employees can have more flexible schedules to fit around any family commitments they might have.

Trust your employees

Employees are the lifeforce of your business and you can’t work as efficiently without them. It is important that you don’t spend all of your time looking over their shoulders and that you don’t clock watch every time they leave the room. Giving some space and trust to your employees helps them to balance their work day and if they need to head out for 10 minutes for some fresh air to clear their mind, it is always better to let them do this. Trust that they will get the job done and allow them to be a little more flexible.

Know when to take a break

If you haven’t looked up from your desk for 4 hours, you need to get up and take a walk for a minute or two. It is so important for you to know when to take a break if you want to balance your working day. If you feel that you haven’t had enough time, head for a little walk to clear your mind and let yourself relax for a while. Taking time out of the working day to do this is important not only for your body but also for your mental health.
