Make Money Online

Thanks to the internet, there are many legit ways to make money online, either full time, or whenever you have a few minutes to spare. It’s easy to find something that fits into your schedule, and it’s possible to make enough to supplement your income.

Online surveys

Doing surveys online is becoming increasingly popular with students and other busy people because very little effort is required. Dedicated survey takers can rake in around £200 a year. Signing up is easy, but you should know that you won’t be making a lot of money right away. Still, this is good way to save up for your Christmas expenses. Be careful, not all survey sites are created equal. Some are legit and pay a decent amount of money for your time, but others either take longer to pay the same amount, or they’re scams.

Freelance writer

If you have a great writing style, you can structure an article and try to pitch it to an online magazine or your local paper. You might only earn a small amount at first, but once you’ve built up a reputation you can start charging more for your articles. Alternatively, you can apply for a part-time position with a content writing company and write as many articles as you can in your spare time. All you need to make this possible is a laptop and a good internet connection. Do some research and find out if there are any freelance websites looking for writers.

Make money from your website

The easiest way to turn a part-time hobby into a money-making scheme is by making money from your website. Even if you’re not one of the lucky few able to make enough to quit their day job, you might still generate enough income to pay your domain expenses. The quickest way to make money from your website is through affiliate marketing – which is where you endorse products you like to your subscribers. If your audience is interested in the product, they click on an affiliate link, and you get a split of the sale price if they purchase the product. Do some research and find other ways you can make money from your website.

Vlogging

YouTube is an excellent site for earning money. When you upload your videos you can enable adverts and get paid each time somebody watches them. Over a billion people visiting YouTube every single month so finding viewers for your videos isn’t difficult. You can offer language lessons, tips on how to play an instrument, or a review of a movie you’ve recently seen.

Sell your things online

The next time you’re trying to purge your belongings, check if you your old clothes and electronic devices are still in good condition. If so, you might want to hold off donating them and try and make a little extra money. You no longer need to organize a yard sale or carry boxes of books to a second-hand store. Simply create a profile and sell your things on eBay or Amazon. If they don’t sell after a month, take them off your profile and donate them to charity. Even one sale is money in the bank. If you’re particularly crafty, you could also make money from your hand-knitted scarves by selling them on Etsy.

Loans

When you need to make money fast, a loan is usually what comes to mind. However, loans come with a lot of stipulations, and they may end up costing you more than you can afford. Not all loans are bad, however, but it’s good to be informed of all the different types of loans before you sign any documents.

Personal loans

If you need money to cover personal costs, such as a wedding, then a personal loan is the best option. Unlike mortgages, small business loans, or car loans, personal loans don’t have a designated purpose. You can borrow as much as you need, although if you ask for more than £25,000 the lender might ask you to put up an asset. You’ll get a fixed interest rate and you can pay it back over a number of years. However, if you do have a specific need for this loan, you should enquire if there is a type of loan for it.

Logbook loans

A logbook loan is a type of secured loan which relies on an asset as collateral, in this case, your car. If you own a vehicle that is less than ten years old, and you have a full MOT, then you’re pretty much guaranteed to qualify for a logbook loan, thus avoiding the need to jump through any hoops like you would with a bank loan. The amount you get will depend on how much your car is worth. However, you should know that if you default on your loan, the lender will take possession of your car to cover the interest. It’s risky, so it’s worth thinking about before you apply.

Payday loans

Payday loans are designed to be short term loans to help you get from one payday to the next. However, people tend to accumulate debt on this kind of loan if they aren’t able to pay it off within a 28 day period, thus increasing the cost due to high interest rates. However, if you’re reasonably certain that you’re only experiencing a temporary setback, then a payday loan might not be a bad solution. If you only needed to borrow a fairly small amount, a Payday Loans Net loan could be quickly paid off within the repayment period. As a quick and temporary solution, a payday loan is not a bad idea. People tend to get into the most trouble when they borrow large amounts for a longer period of time.

In Your Spare Time

Even if you don’t have the time (or the energy) for a second job, there are still many ways you can boost your income in your spare time. Some of the following options barely require any effort on your part.

Tutor

Do you know how to play an instrument, speak a second language, or just happen to be really good at math? There are plenty of people out there who could use your skills. As a tutor, you could choose your own hours to fit around your family and other commitments, and you could charge what you feel is a fair price. Before you start advertising, however, be sure this is something you’d like to commit to, because you could be doing this for months at a time. It’s very inconvenient to your students if you suddenly decide to cancel all your classes. If you decide to go through with it, you can advertise for free on your own website.

Rent out your spare room

Sure, you could use your spare room as an office or home gym, but you could also use it to make a bit of extra money. If you’re open to the idea of having more people living in your house, then why not rent out your empty bedrooms to a lodger. It could be a student from a local college, an exchange student, or someone who’s moved for work but hasn’t been able to sort accommodation yet. Each of these options means you’ll have a temporary tenant, so you can try it out for a few weeks to see if you like the arrangement. At the very least, you’ll be getting help paying the bills, and maybe some help around the house if your tenant is considerate about the mess they make.

If all your rooms are currently occupied, then you might consider renting out your parking space or your garage. Startup bands are always looking for relatively cheap places to rehearse, and your parking space will be in high demand if you live near a tourist spot, airport, or sports stadium.

Help with odd jobs

Remember when you used to get paid to mow the lawn? Websites like TaskRabbit allow people in certain cities to list tasks they need help with like picking up a parcel or moving home that they are willing to pay for. This is perfect if you have a bit of free time on your hands. You will have to go through a quick verification to become a helper, but otherwise you’re free to pick and choose your jobs.

Take Up Offers

This isn’t so much earning money as it is making it. There are some sites that offer tips on matched betting, playing games online for money and even all you need to know about Foxy Bingo. It’s all about taking advantage of the sign-up offers that each one is setting out for new customers, and only going as far as your know that your money will allow. If you have won, quit while you are ahead. This is something that a lot of people do in order to generate some tax-free revenue for themselves – quickly.

Sell Your Hobbies

If you are into crafting, such as knitting and crocheting, consider selling what you have made on a site like Etsy or eBay. There will always be somebody out there who will be willing to buy what you have made. It could be right up their street. Others may not even know that what you have created was exactly what they were looking for. It doesn’t just have to be crafting in that sense. If you are into woodwork, plumbing, electrical work or anything else that you do more as a hobby than a job, you can get away with charging good rates for something that you enjoy doing.

Start A Business

It’s becoming increasingly easier to set up your own ecommerce shop within a website that you have built. Buying items wholesale from places like China can be quite a lucrative business when you list them all online to sell. Knowing what’s hot and what’s not can be a tricky game to play, so it’s best to do your research before you dive straight in.

Get Creative

If you’re good at art or know how to twist your words around to suit other people, try looking for content writing, copywriting and graphic design jobs. There are thousands of companies and businesses out there who are looking for people just like you to get their websites up and running to where they need to be. If there isn’t anything engaging on there, people won’t interact with their business – and that’s where the creatives step in.

Take Surveys

Although this takes a lot of time to build up an amount of money worth collecting from them, taking surveys and completing quizzes for market research companies can be a fun way to pass the time as well as seeing which freebies you’re eligible for. Set up a separate email address (just in case spam starts to make its way over to you) and simply start answering questions!

COULD A LOW SALARY SUSTAIN YOU?

We live in a world in which wealth is seen as a success. People are encouraged to follow career paths down which they stand to make the most money. Often, people give up on dreams because they won’t get rich following them.

Money is, ultimately, the primary drive. You can see that anytime someone asks what you do for a living. If you’re in a high paying job, like law, you get nods of approval and respect. If, however, you’re an artist, the conversation moves on pretty fast.

But, some people don’t succumb to this pressure. For those individuals, happiness is more important than money. And, they do say money can’t buy you happiness. In many ways, society wouldn’t function without those willing to take less pay to do a job they love.

That’s especially true when it comes to care jobs and teaching. The good news is, there are always vacancies in these areas. People jump ship to higher paying options all the time.Teachers are in especially high demand, and companies like Simply Education can show you the many options available. Equally, you only have to look in your local newspaper to see how many care assistants are needed.

But, why would anyone choose a career that won’t make them rich? There are many reasons, and they’re not all to do with following dreams. Careers such as the ones mentioned above are some of the most satisfying. They are sure ways to make a difference to others. And, one thing stronger than the need for wealth, is the need to help.

Of course, caring style jobs aren’t the only ones in which people don’t make massive amounts of money. Artists and writers also work for less. But, the desire to help others is also a factor there. They want to share their art so that they can make a difference to someone.

The good news is, it’s possible to survive on the salary from these jobs. Of course it is; people do it all the time. But, it’s important to realise early on that you’re not going to be rolling in cash.

Instead, you’ll need to gain financial control of your life. If you don’t, you’ll soon start to struggle. In truth, if you get a good grip on your finances, you’ll feel as well off as many of those earning a lot more than you.

It’s important to live within your means. This is relevant for anyone, but it’s especially important for low earners. Take the time to gain a realistic idea of how much you earn, and plan your life around that. Don’t push your budget by getting a house that’s above your budget. And, don’t splash the cash on large luxury items, like cars, which you can’t afford.

We all have to make allowances to survive. Consider what you’re willing to change, and take steps to achieve the goal. You’ll soon find that a low earning job is worth doing, as long as you do it right.

ARE YOU A FINANCIAL CONTROL FREAK?

Do people call you a control freak? Are you more comfortable when you are in control of everything? Well, I’m here to tell you that rather than being a derogatory comment, you should see it as a compliment. What’s wrong with being in control and being in charge, especially when it come to your finances? I say; nothing! In fact, folks that haven’t got a good handle on their financial situations can learn a lot from you and the following advice.

Budgets

Being in control of your budget is surely a good thing right? Whether it’s a personal budget or one for the whole family? It means that you only buy what is needed, don’t go into debt, and have a much more stable financial situation. Allowing you to put money away for other things like buying property or going on holiday.

But what is the best way of being in control of your budget? Well, using mobile on the online app can really help. As they can show you what you have spent in a visual way. Which makes it a lot easier to see if you have overspent in any particular area, and manage this better the next month.

Savings

Being in control of your saving is a great thing. Why? Well, why would you not be in control of your own money that you have worked hard to scrimp and save for? In fact, for some folks just having some savings is an achievement, so they are not just living paycheck to paycheck.

However, for the true financial control freak, they will; not only want to see what savings they are making every month. But they will also want a hand in choosing the best account with the most benefits and the highest interest. So they can ensure that their money is working hard for them and their future.
finance

Pensions

Now, a lot of folks don’t worry too much about their pensions because they like their retirement is so far off in the future it seem irrelevant. But you won’t find the financial control freak making this mistake. Oh no! For them having their pension sorted is one of the most important things, because it ensures that they are in control of not just their current situation but also their future as well.

Of course, the pension can be complicated things. They can end up scattered if you have worked for a few different employers. Or they can be unusable if you are using a fund where you have no control over how your money is invested. Which many folks in the ‘90s pension scandal learned the hard way.

That is why it can be especially useful for the financial control freak to use a SIPP or a Self-Invested Personal Pension. As this allow them to have ultimate control over where their money is invested.

Investments

Lastly, a true control freak of the financial variety will not only have the budgeting, saving and pension sorted but they will also be making medium to long term investment to increase their overall wealth.

finances

This Investment may take the form of a business venture, buying property or even investing in the stock market. But of course whatever they choose to put their money into they will definitely want to be as in control of it as possible.

WOULD YOU ASK FOR A PAY RISE?

pay rise

As a blogger I am always on the look out for side hustles to make some extra cash.  Having a full time job it can be tricky fitting everything in.  I got thinking about my full time job and wondering if I should ask for a pay rise?  After all this is another opportunity to make money.

To be honest, I’ve never asked for a pay rise before.  I was wondering though how to go about it.  Below are some of the questions I’ve been asking myself.

When’s the right time to ask for a pay rise?

I really don’t think any time is the right time but I guess if I was going to ask it would be after the financial year end or when it was time for my yearly review.  I guess this is the time when my duties are often reviewed so it would be the ideal time to notify my manager of any new duties I had undertaken.  This would be a good case for considering a pay rise at this time.

What do I need to think about before asking?

The tasks that I now undertake are varied and have increased over the last year.  If I was going to ask for a pay rise it would be important that I list these and share them with my manager.  Listing what I bring to the role could also have an important impact on my manager understanding my worth to the organisation.

How do I make my case?

Even thinking about asking makes me nervous.  I guess taking a lead from job interviews could possibly help in that sitting straight, making eye contact and speaking slow and confident would ensure a less nervous conversation.

How much do I ask for?

This is a negotiation so aiming high is probably the right strategy and be prepared for a lower amount or maybe increased benefits if there’s no cash for a pay rise.

Have you ever asked for a pay rise?  What was the outcome? Any hints or tips?

EARNING CASHBACK FROM SHOPPING ONLINE – MY HOW TO

earn cashback

It is my mission to ensure everyone knows about earning cashback.  If you are like me you do a lot of your shopping online not least because of the convenience and the ease of using discount codes online then you will also want to know about how easy it is earning cashback.  I just love earning cashback and below I show you how you can too!

Yes you heard that right – I get paid to shop online!

Cashback websites have become very popular and I can see why – who wouldn’t like to earn extra cash when you would be shopping online anyway?

While there are many sites out there, there are two which I have used for years and highly recommend.  These are TopCashBack and Quidco.

How do cashback websites work

The websites pay you when you click through their site to go to retailers and buy products.  This can be anything from fashion, beauty right through to a financial product such as car insurance.

The sign up process is very straightforward and is completely free.  If you come across a site asking you to pay – step away from it – it could be a scam!

Once you sign up you simply login and search for the retailer you want to shop with, if it’s listed then click on the link which will take you to the retailer.  Your visit to the retailer will be tracked through this affiliate link and you will be paid once the purchase has been confirmed.

You can withdraw your cashback once it has been confirmed.  You can request it to be paid in to your bank or your PayPal account.  Another bonus with TopCashBack is that you can swap your cash for Amazon or Tesco Clubcard points.  Especially useful if you are saving up for a specific purchase at these online retailers.

Another fantastic cashback provider is Quidco.  Again the basic membership is free and their payment system is similar in that you can request payment to your PayPal account or to your bank account.

In order to maximise your cashback I recommend you register with both sites and when you plan to shop online check both to see which provider is offering you the best cashback option – sometimes they offer different deals which is great.  Recently I managed to get 10% cashback from a purchase I made from Superdrug.

I highly recommend you sign up without further delay and start earning cashback – it is such an easy process.

For TopCashBack visit here, and for Quidco go here.

As a bonus if you sign up to TopCashBack today they will give you £5 M&S voucher after earning £10 cashback!  What a fantastic treat.

Happy cashback-ing!

THINGS YOU CAN SELL OR DO TO MAKE EXTRA CASH AFTER CHRISTMAS

Money can be tight when the festive season is over so below I have noted some of the things you can sell and where to make some extra cash or things you can do to make some cash.

  1. Old DVDs, Books and LPs

You can either flog them altogether on the likes of Music Magpie or you can list them on Ebay.  After all if you no longer use the items there is  no point in cluttering up your home.

  1. Make things to sell

If you are good at arts and crafts then get your creative juices going and make items you can sell.  To get some inspiration have a look at etsy and set up an account with them today to start selling your lovely handmade goods.

  1. Offering a Service

Do you like pets?  Are you good with figures?  You could become a pet sitter, a dog walker or offer your services as a book-keeper.  Why not register with People per Hour and start  applying for contracts.  You too can register here and start making extra money.

  1. Old/Vintage Clothes

Vintage clothing is so popular with some vintage dresses selling for over £30 per dress on Ebay.  Get hunting through your wardrobe, you mum’s wardrobe and your gran’s wardrobe!

  1. Turn your hobby in to cash

Keen photographer?  Start selling your photographs or advertise your photography service on Gumtree.  You can do this for any hobby.

  1. Start a Blog

I would encourage anyone and everyone to set up a blog.  The potential for making money is fantastic – although it will take a little time to get established but if you follow along with me as I post about how I am currently undertaking this, you will certainly do great!

The first step though is register with TSO Host to get your blog started.  Some articles that will help you out:

You are paid in cash so get registering today and find out how much you can make during your lunch break!

  1. Mystery Shop

A great way to make extra cash is to mystery shop.  To find out about mystery shopping view my blog post here.
